A straight comparison from the factory floor: safety, insulation, cost and which material fits your market.
Almost every new buyer asks us the same thing before their first order: should we go stainless steel or aluminum? Both are metal, both are reusable, both beat plastic on shelf appeal. But for an importer or brand, the difference decides your cost, your certifications, and how your product is perceived. Here is the honest version, from a factory that makes both.

Stainless steel (we use food-grade 18/8, also called 304) is non-reactive. It touches your drink directly, with no inner coating needed. Aluminum is reactive — it will leach a metallic taste and react with acidic drinks — so every aluminum bottle must have an internal lining, usually an epoxy or resin coating. That lining is the whole conversation. If it is cheap or wears out, the bottle is finished. This is the single most important thing to understand before you choose aluminum.
Stainless steel passes FDA, LFGB, EU 1935/2004 and California Prop 65 with no surprises because there is no coating to migrate. With aluminum, your test reports hinge on the liner: it has to be confirmed BPA-free and food-safe, and the migration tests focus on that coating. Both can be made compliant — but aluminum needs closer attention to the liner spec, and you should always see the test report for the exact liner used.
Neither single-wall aluminum nor single-wall stainless keeps drinks cold for long on its own. Real insulation comes from double-wall vacuum construction, which is far easier and more common in stainless steel. If your customers expect 12–24 hour cold retention, you are almost certainly looking at a vacuum stainless flask, not aluminum.
Choose stainless steel if you sell to retail, want insulation, need clean certifications, or your brand is built on quality. Choose aluminum if weight and the lowest possible unit cost matter most — typically large promotional or event orders where the bottle is a giveaway, not a hero product. Many of our clients carry both: stainless for the premium line, aluminum for promo volume.

We make both in-house from 500 pieces per design, with full branding and your choice of certifications. If you are not sure which fits your market, send us your target retail price and use case and we will tell you honestly which way to go.
