What a custom bottle mould really costs

Use the component-by-component reference budgets to plan your project. Send a sketch, reference product and quantity; your contact can compare the tooling scope, ownership, samples and development steps with you.

Why “how much is a mould?” has no single answer

A bottle can have separate tools for the body, liner, lid and moving parts. We list the tooling by component so you can see what is included before approving the project.

Reference budgets, with the scope shown: a steel or plastic mould is around US$2,000–3,000 per part. A complete bottle tooling set is around US$10,000–20,000+, with complex designs above US$20,000. The quotation lists the actual tools, reusable parts, sample work and costs for your drawing and quantity, so a per-part figure is clear alongside the complete project budget.

What the money actually buys

The tool list is only part of the quotation. We also review the components, proposed cavities, trial samples and revision stages for the selected design. Your contact can explain what is included and keep the current drawing and approvals together as the project develops.

Compare cavity options against your quantity. More cavities change the tooling investment and output per cycle. We can compare suitable options for the same component, planned quantity and production schedule, with tooling cost and per-piece production cost shown separately. The comparison gives you figures for your project before you decide.

The mould is yours — and we look after it

Put the initial tooling payment and the agreed refund condition into the same budget. Your contact can show the threshold in writing and explain how it applies to cumulative orders. You can then compare the upfront investment with the quantities you actually plan to order.

Custom tooling versus starting on an existing body

Swipe the table to see all columns.

Start with what you want your product to do. A familiar body with your logo, colour, lid and packing may fit the brief. A new shape may be useful when a particular form or function matters to your brand. Send the idea, budget and planned quantity; we can put the options, sample work and costs side by side, with one contact following the drawings and approvals through the project.

How a mould order is paid — four milestones

The quotation sets out four payment milestones and the related approvals. Unless otherwise agreed in a signed written amendment:

10%
Mould deposit

of the tooling fee, when the agreement is signed — before 3D sample work begins.

90%
Rest of the tooling

only after you approve the 3D sample and final 3D data in writing. Then the mould is made.

30%
Bulk deposit

of the bulk order, only after you approve the moulded samples in writing.

70%
Bulk balance

after bulk production and before shipment, subject to the goods matching what you approved.

From sketch to first sample — five steps

Brief and feasibility

Send a sketch, a reference product or a 3D file. We tell you which parts need tooling, roughly what it will cost, and whether anything in the design will fight the process — before you commission drawings.

3D CAD and quotation

We produce the CAD and quote each tool separately, so you see where the money goes rather than one lump figure. Cavity options quoted side by side.

Tooling — schedule confirmed for the agreed tooling scope

The tool is made and trialled after the agreed drawing and approval stages. We confirm the tooling schedule for the component list and keep you informed as the project moves toward its trial samples.

T1 sample and revision

Review the trial samples against the agreed drawing and project brief. If an adjustment is needed, your contact records the change and arranges the next review before bulk production is planned. The schedule allows for the sample and approval stages agreed for the project.

Production

The production schedule is confirmed after moulded samples, artwork, order details and the 30% bulk deposit are agreed — see the payment schedule. We inspect our own sampling pass against your approved physical sample.

Frequently asked

Our reference is US$2,000–3,000 per part and US$10,000–20,000+ for a complete bottle set, with complex designs above US$20,000. Send a sketch or reference, dimensions and planned quantity. We list the tools, any existing parts that can be used and the sample work, then confirm the complete project quotation before development.
Your paid custom tooling belongs to you, with ownership and agreed use recorded in writing. We keep that tooling for your project; a catalogue body remains available in our range. Your contact confirms the tool list and project terms before development.
We store and maintain your custom tooling at Jupeng free of charge for the agreed project. This includes cleaning and rust prevention between runs. Your contact keeps the storage, access and maintenance arrangement with the project record, so it is clear for a repeat order.
Yes, after the agreed cumulative-order volume is reached. We record the threshold and refund calculation in the quotation before tooling starts. Ask your contact to show that condition alongside the initial tooling cost, so you can plan the upfront payment and later orders together.
The schedule depends on the drawing, tooling scope, components and sample plan. Once the brief and project scope are confirmed, the quotation will set out the expected design, tooling and sample stages for your project.
Start by comparing an existing model, a possible modification and a new shape. Share the product idea, target quantity, intended use and budget; we can explain the tooling and sample scope alongside the available catalogue option so you can choose the route that fits.
The number of separate parts, dimensions, component arrangement, cavities and sample work affect the tooling scope. Send the drawing or reference and planned quantity; we can show the component list, compare suitable cavity options and explain the costs for the same project brief.
Some changes may fit an existing model, while others need new tooling. Send the model code or a drawing and describe the change; we will check feasibility and explain the sample, tooling and cost implications before the project is planned.
